How to choose your camera strap length
The right camera strap length lets you reach your camera comfortably and carry it the way you photograph. Your height is a starting point, but your preferred camera position, body shape and clothing matter too.
Start with how you carry
Around your neck: Decide whether you want the camera near your chest or lower down. Check that you can lift it comfortably to your eye.
Over one shoulder: Consider where the camera rests at your side and how easily you can control it while walking.
Across your body: The path over your shoulder and torso differs from neck carrying. Measure this position separately instead of adding a fixed number of centimetres.
At your wrist: A wrist strap is a different carrying style. You keep the camera in your hand while shooting.
Measure your preferred length
- Wear the clothes you usually photograph in. A thick jacket changes the fit.
- Hold the camera securely at the position you want it to sit.
- Lay a piece of string along the intended strap path, from one attachment point to the other. Use the string only for measuring, never to carry the camera.
- Mark both ends and measure the string flat.
- Compare that measurement with the lengths offered for your chosen strap. Check that you can still lift the camera to your eye.

Between two lengths?
Measure both positions. A shorter strap brings the camera closer to your torso; a longer one changes its position and freedom of movement. Choose based on your actual preferred fit, and check whether your model has a fixed or adjustable length.
Do not shorten the strap yourself by cutting it or adding knots. Contact us before making changes if the length is not right.
Common questions
Can I choose from my height alone?
No. People of the same height may prefer different lengths. Measure with your camera and usual clothing.
Does one length suit every carrying style?
A fixed length may suit one position better than another. Start with the way you carry most often.
